Sewing Lesson

I remembered how amazed i was at first by the high tech sewing machines in NIE that i took a picture of it. It was touch screen and so much interesting as compared to the normal sewing machines i have seen before. Well, of course the cost was priced to suit accordingly.

With that, various products were produced with the touch of the sewing machines. We sew tote bags, ipad or file cover and we were taught how to use various applications which can only be found in the high tech sewing machines such as image digitizing and words applique on a towel.

Lastly, there was the product line project. I paired up with Azyan to come up with 3 products for the project. Personally, i feel the biggest challenge was trying to use recycled materials to create a product. I agree there are many things to be recycled but to create them into a very polished and brand new products were quite difficult. Nevertheless, we managed to create 3 products with recycled materials. After consulting Dr Mok more than once, everything came into place.

Tada~! The chosen theme was denim bags.

I guess, right from the start, sewing from TP days had always taught me patience and perseverance. I still remembered a lecturer mentioning that ''You need to have internal peace to be able to sew things right''. I never understand what she meant and thought that the sentence was meaningless. However, i agree with her now and realised how it makes sense now as i see some of my mates getting frustrated with sewing in class.

Sewing has always been about learning the process along the way. It can get quite frustrating, in fact, very. But when the products are out, it gives a very accomplished feeling in the insides.

And i think it applies to teaching too. Maybe teaching can get very frustrating due to workload, students and everything but upon seeing how one can make a positive impact on a student in the long run, i guess it will leave an accomplished feeling in the insides too. I still remembered my cousin's words, who is a senior teacher, "It is not going to be easy but it is not impossible."
